Japan - Day 11

We had an early start today, aiming to beat the crowds at one of Japan’s busiest tourist areas.
The station was bustling, with colour-coded floors guiding the flow of people.

We caught a train out of Tokyo toward the coast. The ride was chilled, and I even picked up a model and jigsaw of the little Enoshima Electric Railway - as a fitting souvenir.
As usual in Japan, we walked a lot - kilometers upon kilometers - and saw plenty along the way: white and pink cherry blossoms, numerous temples, bamboo forests, and an abundance of well tended trees.
Eventually, we walked across the bridge to Enoshima Island, spending most of the day wandering around the island and its shrine — which is pretty much the same thing.
We were able to hold off eating until later in the day, having enjoyed a big breakfast. Our first island snack was a bit of “blue food” — touristy, but fun. We also tried curry buns during our walk. I had a minor shock when I noticed a tiny whitebait head in mine — a little off-putting — and later experienced a bit of a squirmy stomach. Whether the two were connected, I’ll never know.

Toward the end of the day, we found a sushi bar at the local train station, which was packed with restaurants. The service was a bit slow at first, but I learned that here you don’t wait for a server to come by — you just wave them over to order more food and drinks. Sushi often comes with soup, which was new to me — in this case, a fish-head broth. The broth itself was good, but I drew the line at eating the fish heads.
