Last Day in Japan
Our final day in Japan began with checking out of our central Tokyo hotel and making our way to a hotel closer to Narita Airport ahead of an early flight the next morning.
As we hadn’t booked breakfast at the hotel, we headed out in search of food and ended up with a generous spread of sandwiches, pastries and coffee. Not particularly Japanese, perhaps — but it was busy and didn’t feel overly touristy, so who knows?
We visited another park or two, where I added a few more perfectly average photos of plants and trees to the collection.
Lunch was a sushi-making class, where we prepared our own meal before sitting down to eat it. It was just the two of us in the class, so we received plenty of attention. Our technique was solidly average, but we had a good laugh with the restaurant team — and, most importantly, the sushi tasted pretty good. Unfortunately I didn't take photos of the end result - as I ate them before pausing for photos.
For dinner, we walked out from our airport hotel and found a small teppanyaki restaurant with just seven seats. Continuing on the same theme of the day, it was only the two of us and the owner-chef, which meant even more personalised attention, limited only by our lack of Japanese and his lack of English . It was a great experience, enjoyed with a few beers. It was my first time trying teppanyaki, and definitely something I’d happily do again.
