Gullfoss, known as the "Golden Falls," stands out as one of Iceland's most breathtaking natural wonders. Located in the heart of the Golden Circle, this magnificent waterfall attracts visitors from all corners of the globe, eager to witness it's stunning beauty and mega powerful cascades.
TL;DR
Only when you are standing in front of it can you appreciate the volume of water, the sound, and the sheer energy of the waterfall
The Geography of Gullfoss
Gullfoss is located in the Hvítá river canyon in southwest Iceland. The waterfall's height is approximately 32 meters, with two distinct drops that create a dramatic effect. The first drop is about 11 meters, followed by a second drop of 21 meters. This powerful flow of water plunges into the canyon below, releasing a fine mist that can create beautiful rainbows on sunny days.
Visiting Gullfoss
When planning your visit to Gullfoss, there are several factors to consider to ensure an unforgettable experience. The waterfall is easily accessible from Reykjavik, making it a popular day trip destination. The drive takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, passing by other 'must sees' such as the geyser.
From the viewing area you will have stunning views of the waterfall. There are several walking paths leading to different vantage points, letting you capture the falls from various angles.

Best Time to Visit
My favourite time is Winter, though the flow isn't at it's strongest at this time of year - but portions of the waterfall will be iced up. It's cold as well, so wrap up well.
